Texas Hill Country Quilt

One jelly roll of Cotton and Steel Basics, a bit of yardage, some time, a lot of deliberation, and a "few" stitches later...

You get a quilt that belongs in the Texas Hill Country!

This one is being gifted to a wonderful family we have been friends with for a long time. And they just bought a "ranchette" a few minutes west of Austin. We just spent the weekend out there with them and seriously, "Ahhh, beautiful." is all that I can say.

The shadows highlighting the quilting from the back.

Rattlesnake print backing. Appropriate, no? Stitches, and more stitches.

I opted for a medallion like quilt again on this one.

One more picture.

Birds and Berries Part 2

I almost forgot to post this one.
It's going under the tree for my little who for Christmas.
I think it will be a great little throw blanket for her future bedroom.
We move Dec. 22 - yeah, just in time to make Christmas MORE crazy.

The fabric is Birds and Berries by Lauren and Jessi Jung for Moda.
I did exclude the purple colorway from the rest of the line.

Oh I'm getting more excited for Christmas just looking at this!!! :D

Quilt Therapy

I think people sew for a variety of reasons.
Mostly because it's awesome!
It also makes for some really good therapy.
Really, really good therapy.

For some reason, unknown to us, we really stink at making babies.
Of course, the ones we have are perfect ;)
Just sayin'.
But the "getting them" just hasn't been easy.
I actually REALLY started quilting like a crazy person after we realized we were going to have to deal with fertility problems back in 2009.
I needed a lot of quilt therapy to get me through it.
After rounds of crazy hormone injections for months and months and months we finally had a baby boy to show for it.

This last week I had another miscarriage (#4) and D&C. :(
So there was more quilt therapy to the rescue.

And the cute little man that reminds me it's all worth it and everything is going to be okay. :)
All better.

Spring Lovin' Clementine!

My child is hiding under this somewhere...

So this is my latest finished quilt - used a jelly roll and some yardage for the borders, backing, and binding.
It was the perfect project for heading into spring.
Twin sized (washed once 'cause I couldn't not see it all crinkly) and now posted in the shop.
Hmmm, do I really want to see this go?

A little slow

Well, it's taken me a few days to get anything to post (the olympics are on!) and while it's still not a finished product I think it is a big enough project to get a WIP pic. :o)

This one started out as a boys twin quilt in my mind, then I cut up the sashing strips,
only to realize I should have cut them out of the cream fabric, not the white.

grrr...

So I looked around (for about 2 minutes) and realized I could do a patchwork with a jelly roll in Clementine by Me and My Sister Designs for Moda - still twin size.

Ahh, lovely.

So the "boy" quilt I was planning has been postponed... not for long.

A little project today... a bigger one tomorrow.

Well, this is all I have to show you today...
there's a larger project that hopefully will be finished tonight/tomorrow for your viewing pleasure!
These coasters are just a modified version of the tutorial I posted here.
For the top of the coaster you just need to sew 6 (5" x 1.25") strips together lengthwise and square each block to 5" x 5"... complete as directed in the tutorial!
Charm squares and jelly roll strip scraps work great for this!

Wonderland 1

Another day, another quilt!
Love, love, love this fabric. Thank you MoMo for Wonderland. I even got the jelly roll for $24 at the quilt festival - STEAL!
Plus, there's another quilt from this fabric line that I'm going to go bind now.

New Pattern

I've listed a new pattern in the shop... love it!
Now my "bummies" hurt from sitting here all day creating it.

Happy sewing! I'm getting ice cream... blue bell. Mmmm!

Tablerunner Project with Tutorial

Mary Englebreit Friends and Flowers for Moda fabrics have (finally) made there way across the sewing table, and I LOVE them! So vintage looking and cheerful! In the works from this fabric line so far: a baby blanket and tablerunner.

Pics of the oober deliciousness.

To make both: 1 jelly roll and the usual "sashing/backing/binding" fabric

Cut 5" segments (needed 72 for the runner, 144 for the baby blanket)

Sew together into long strips of 8 mixing the fabrics at random

Mix the strips until you like the arrangement offset for a layered brick look.

Cut 2 1/2" pieces off of every other row and stitch to the other side of the strip.

Sew strips together (9 total) and square runner with a rotary cutter.

Cut backing fabric to size, baste, quilt, and enjoy!

Approximate finished size: 18" x 36"

Stacked coin baby quilt instructions can be found at the:

My baby quilt will be posted later this week! Happy quilting!
